Rodman diplomacy: “you have a friend for life”

In tricky international relations where the standard protocol does not work after several attempts, ingenuity and creativity could do the trick. The Philippines can learn some lessons from Dennis Rodman’s stroke of superb diplomacy – the Guardian calls it the Rodman Doctrine – with the formidable leader of North Korea. It worked because for starters, Kim Jong-un (compared to his father) is of this century and a major fan of basketball. If your idol travels the seas to see you and in person tells you “I’m your friend for life” – my god, it makes you want to reciprocate as graciously maybe even more.

Is China’s and Malaysia’s PMs great fans of boxing? Maybe Pacquiao could do the trick.
